We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families. Please click here to see what supplies are needed for our project/projects.
Our eco-lodge is located in Bocatorito, which is a small village on the shores of Dolphin Bay, Bocas del Toro, Panama. Dolphin Bay is home to approximately 25 local families, including both Hispanic and indigenous Ngöbe people. At the heart of the community is an elementary school with 30 students of ages ranging from 6 to 13 years old.
The area is truly “off-the-Grid”, without access to municipal water or electricity. Many in the area fish and farm to support and feed their families. Even with many hardships, Bocatorito is a vibrant and happy community with a great and growing school.
Due to very limited resources, the village is always in need of basic medical and school supplies. We hope our eco-lodge and our generous guests can help supply the school with these very important items and make a difference in their lives. Also on the wish list are solar panels for the school roof, which would provide power to a few fans for the children. Fans would greatly assist with concentration of tough topics on hot and humid days.
Books in Spanish and English are especially appreciated to build the library’s collection. The school has many needs and will benefit greatly from support provided by our guests and friends.
